Wish Granted

Er, this is a bit weird.

After writing my gushing post about Lizzie Skurnick and Fine Lines, I popped over to Jezebel and discovered a brand, spanking new Fine Lines article, about A Summer to Die. It looks like Fine Lines is going to be a regular Friday feature again.

Maybe this is my magical, wishes-come-true day.

Maybe my next post should be about that pony I've had my eye on...

Very Fine Lines

Jezebel used to have a feature called Fine Lines every Friday, which I looked forward to with an enthusiasm that I'm almost embarrassed to admit. I have read and re-read Lizzie's posts, especially about The Long Winter and A Little Princess (A Little Princess, people!), to near memorization and cursed the lack of new Fine Lines goodness.

But the wait is over, my little Half Pints, because Ms. Lizzie Skurnick has written a book! It's called Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading and I'm completely freaking out about it. It makes me want to give buns to poor, British children, twist hay for burning to survive the long winter and spend the last of my hard earned petty cash on Christmas gifts for Marmee.

There's even a quiz.

Bless you, Lizzie Skurnick. Bless you.

Polite Umbrella

I just finished reading about the Polite Umbrella post on Cup of Jo. This is the best invention I've seen in such a long time! I know that it's not the cure for cancer, but I like inventions to be accessible.

And polite.

Wedding Invitations

As I mentioned before, I'll be getting married soon. In about two months, actually. Yeeps!

I thought I'd show you the style of invitation we went with. I think I've been pretty relaxed about the whole wedding planning process, but I have to admit that I was really picky about the invitations

They're New Calligraphy by Bella Figura and I'm completely in love with them:

Insert Melville Joke Here

Although the living room is looking really good, I find myself thinking it's incomplete without this Don Carney pillow on the sofa:

I guess I just like the idea of taking a welcoming object and sticking a big, old killer whale on it.

And Another Thing...

My best beloved's 17 year old cousin came to visit us this weekend, to check out a few colleges in Boston. I can't tell you what a fun, girly time we had!

Check out these boots she picked up:

They look absolutely fabulous on her.

Rental Bathroom Renovation

Ok, I wish this were actually about bathroom renovation. But, as I live in a rental, it's only about trying to make my truly heinous, beige bathroom slightly less so.

As I just mentioned, my bathroom is beige. Builder's beige. The floor and half the walls are tiled with builders beige and the upper half of the walls are painted to match. The only variety in the room comes from the white elements, i.e.- the ceiling, toilet, sink and bathtub. How sad is it when you think of your white toilet as adding interest?

Now that the rest of the apartment is shaping up, it's time to do something about this sad little room. But I find myself completely stumped. I'm allowed to paint and I think that that's a logical first step. But I have no idea what would work with so much beige. And my only other decorating impulse is that I seem to be really drawn towards this shower curtain:

I think that it would look really striking in an entirely white bathroom. But I have no idea how to make it work in the land of beige.

I suppose I could paint the walls hot pink, in homage to one of my favorite restaurants:
